Staff Geologist / Scientist / Engineer

Overview

Michigan Consulting & Environmental is seeking staff geologists/scientists and engineers in our Michigan-based offices due to the rapid growth of our organization. This is a full-time position for dynamic individuals looking for career growth in environmental consulting. In this role, you will work alongside project managers and collaborate with a team of multi-disciplined engineers and scientists, technical and administrative staff with environmental investigations, UST removals, site remediation, environmental due diligence, and provide a wide range of observation and testing services for geotechnical and environmental development projects for a diverse client base. You will assist in the direction of day-to-day activities of junior-level staff; schedule and coordinate task resources, lead soil and groundwater field investigations, and solicit guidance from senior-level technical staff and project managers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist project managers with planning and implementing field environmental investigation and remedial tasks.
  • Field and office support of hydrogeological assessments involving oversight of environmental drilling and well installation as well as Phase I and Phase II due diligence assessments.
  • Soil and groundwater sampling (including low flow sampling).
  • Excavation oversight.
  • Aquifer testing.
  • Evaluate data to 1) support the development of site conceptual site models for environmental investigations 2) delineate the nature and extent of contamination, and 30 modify or optimize post-remedy long-term-monitoring programs.
  • Regulatory reporting including coordination of teams for figure generation, data management, work plan development, and/or other required supporting documents. You will also work with project managers and junior-level staff to prepare regulatory documents such as Initial Assessment and Final Assessment Reports, Site Closure Reports, Status Reports, Phase I, Phase II, Baseline Environmental Assessment, Due Care Plans, SPCC, SWIPP plans and other client/site specific reporting as required.
  • Assist with project cost estimating, establishing/maintaining budgets, evaluating subcontractor proposals, and coordinating all aspects of subcontractor tasks, including schedule logistics as well as health and safety on site.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science or related discipline (Masters degree, PE, or EIT preferred).
  • 4 to 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Fieldwork sampling including specific background in site assessment and remediation, subsurface drilling and soil boring descriptions/logging, monitoring well installation, groundwater sampling methods, soil sample collection for UST removal documentation, and accurate and complete documentation of activities performed.
  • Understanding scope, schedule, and budget management.
  • Interest in or demonstrated experience in CAD preferred.
  • Team orientated with the ability to perform independent hands-on fieldwork.
  • OSHA 40-hr HAZWOPER with current 8-hour refresher.
  • A self-starter possessing strong communication, and organizational skills.
  • Desire to work on multiple projects in parallel rather than a single large project for extended periods.
  • The position requires travel to job sites (typically within 100 miles of the office you work in) and on occasion, out of the local area overnight stays.
  • Valid Michigan Driver’s License with no history of accidents or alcohol/drug related traffic offenses.
  • Employees are required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) provided by the company including but not limited to safety glasses, gloves, hard-hats, boots, respirators, protective suits, goggles, and shields.
  • Must be able to physically walk freely around job sites and equipment as needed (approximately up to 40 pounds).
